Pro Paddling

Corporal Punishment was the method for discipline when I grew up. Schools paddled too, and for me that meant that if I got paddled at school, I could expect another paddling at home.

My parents used a paddle primarily, but sometimes my dad used his belt too. When I was little, they used a ping pong paddle but around age nine I remember they changed to a jokari paddle and later when I was in jr. high my dad got a frat paddle for me. The paddlings were usually done in my room but sometimes they could happen in the living room or kitchen. My parents never punished me any other way. They felt that the punishment should be quick and right away. I remember getting a sound paddling and crying real hard then told I could go back outside and play when I stopped crying. The other thing is that both my parents did it bare butt. I guess it was to embarass me more, which it did, especially if one of my friends saw or the relatives were over and saw me with my pants and underwear down around my ankles.

In school, swats were given pants down bent over a desk. It was at the teachers discreation for bare butt. They always had two other teachers present and a note was sent home that you had to get signed and bring back to school that you had been paddled. The gym teacher always paddled barebottom grabbing your ankles and in front of the rest of the gym class.

I was paddled numerous times in school. I usually got five swats but if the teacher remembered paddling me, then it was 10. I got 10+ for jumping up and touching a clock in the hall when I was in eighth grade. The gym teacher saw so I was called into the gym. I had to drop my pants and bend over. He then took three steps to wind up and land each swat. There were more then 10 that time and I was crying after only three. Then later that evening I got a severe paddling from my dad. That was the worst paddling I got in Jr. High. Ouch, I still remember it. It obviously made an impression.

My last paddling in high school happened graduation night. My sociology teacher caught me "smokin' in the boys room." I had a choice of not graduating that night or swats. I took the swats and I definately got the message and then I had to go to the graduation and sit. Did that sting and he landed quite a few swats to my butt which was already sore from the swats I got 2 days before. My dad continued to paddle me when I needed it. My last paddling I was 23. I lived at home and he was paying for some of my college so he had a right and I think it helped me keep focused on school. I had a job as well to pay for the rest of school and never had to take out a loan.

Spanking is a good way to discipline children and young adults. If it is done properly, it is quick and swift. This is the best way to discipline. Grounding is worthless as it drags on endlessly. Taking away privledges is the same thing. Schools need to be able to paddle unruly students. The idea of suspension is absolutly dumb. You are giving the kids exactly what they want. No school and staying home to play games, watch TV and do whatever they want. A quick hard paddling will get their attention. Spanking is not abuse. Spanking is punishment. Spanking is discipline. Those who grew up in households and school systems where the paddle was used liberally know it was effective. They know their schools were not out of control because the teachers and administrators had them under control. They had an effective form of discipline. Return the paddle back to the schools. Give the teachers what they need to get learning back in the schools. Allow them the right to discipline students. Discipline afterall is also a part of the learning process.
