The school headmaster was in his office looking through some books on hypnosis, he had taken from his bookshelves. He read the name was coined by a man called Braid, in the eighteenth century. Previously it was called mesmerism. He was particularly interested to read how early practitioners would squeeze the subject's testicles, to test the dept of the trance. When there was no reaction to this, the subject was in a deep hypnotic trance.
